About Me

My name is Guy Payne, I am a counsellor and psychotherapist, welcome to my web site. I offer effective and contemporary, evidence based, therapies for Children and Adults, Couples and Families..

I started life in Lagos, Nigeria in 1965 and I first came to the UK in 1972 at the age of seven. I still remember adjusting to my new life Dorset with it’s changing seasons and beautiful coastline. The sun and the sea remain important elements of my life today.

After a number of years travelling the world I settled down in 1989, started a family and began my professional life as an English teacher. However, I have always had a passion for helping people and so, in 2001, I fulfilled my life long ambition and qualified as a therapist and counsellor.

Since then I have gained extensive experience and training in helping adults, children and families feel better and live happier, healthier lives and I still wake up each day feeling excited by my profession.

My goal is simple, to provide you, or someone you love, with therapy that quickly and comfortably enables you to understand your feelings and helps you find compassionate and useful ways to stay emotionally and physically tuned in to yourself .

Please take a few moments to look through my site, you can contact me at any point to have any question you may have answered.

If you would like to find out how I can help you or someone you love then please get in touch with me. You are welcome to send me an email, giving me as little or a much information as you would like or you are more than welcome to contact me by phone for an initial discussion.

We can talk through the counselling process and you will have time to have any questions you may have about counselling answered.

I am registered and Accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I chose to align myself with them because The BACP is the largest counselling organisation in the UK at the moment and they work closely with the government to ensure you receive the highest quality of service.

Why not take this opportunity to review the BACP’s rigorous criteria for accrediting therapists

My BACP membership number is 538561 and my registration number is 020022

I undertake a yearly DBS check (previously CRB). This demonstrates my eligibility to support and help vulnerable people including children.

Adults

Therapy gives you the time and the opportunity to hear your own story in safety and peace. I understand that thinking and speaking about difficult times can evoke strong feelings and memories that you may be trying hard to manage or forget. So, before we start, I will show you compassionate ways to soothe yourself whenever you feel disturbed by unhappy thoughts and feelings.

Take the First Step…

Children

I have supported young people who have lived in children’s homes, residential pupil referal units and mainstream primary and secondary schools in the public and private sector and I have come to see clearly that society expects a good deal from our young people.

Take the First Step…

Couples

It could be that you are struggling to co-parent your children or that you are finding it hard to incorporate step-children into your relationship. It might be that you are trying to recover from the damage of infidelity. Whatever is bringing stress to relationship, therapy is an opportunity for you both to sit together and talk things through.

Take the First Step…

Families

Family counselling can help members of your family who care about one another to speak about difficult thoughts and emotions in a safe way where no one is scapegoated or blamed and everyone is heard and respected.

Testimonial

“We are an Academy where the support we are able to provide our students is key to the ethos of the organisation – we talk of no student being left behind, of no barrier being insurmountable, of barriers to educational achievement being removed as far as is possible – Mr Payne’s input is central to that ethos and our vision statement.

In an era where the demands on students are increasing daily in terms of academic and social achievement, Mr Payne’s service has proved essential – I cannot recommend it highly enough.

If you require any more information please do not hesitate to contact me.”

“I went to see Guy at a time when I was really struggling with life. Guy calmly and patiently helped me. He was non-judgemental and our sessions allowed me to understand myself in a way that proved very positive for me.”

Testimonial

“I contacted Guy to ask him to help my wife and I through a very tough time in our lives. Guy is a sensitive and careful listener, who assessed every situation with understanding and empathy and he never took sides.

He found ways to help us see situations more clearly and he provided a stable environment for my wife and I to openly share our feelings. Guy has been hugely supportive and we came to trust him implicitly in our therapy sessions.”

Therapy for ADHD and ADD

In this article I write about how hard it can be for some children and young people to comply with adult expectations and the risks of labelling them with a conduct disorder.

Support for permanently excluded children

Support for permanently excluded children. Why is punishment and permanent exclusion ineffective for some students?

Am I depressed?

Here’s a simple check list to help you decide if you might be depressed or anxious.

Counselling for teenagers

I provide specialist guidance, support and counselling to teenagers and parents who are struggling with their child’s behaviour.
