Family Counselling in Bournemouth and Poole
Is Family Counselling right for you and if you do decide to try an initial session what can you expect from Family Counselling in Bournemouth and Poole? Family counselling gives you an opportunity to look at how your family relates with itself. You and your therapist might decide to look at the role you take when you are away from your family and the role you take when you come together with your family. Perhaps you may discover some of your family members are seen as successful and “good at life” while some of you may be “the quite one who just gets on with it” and yet others may be seen as the one who struggles to behave in a way that is acceptable to family, bringing shame, confusion and sadness to the family system as a whole. In family therapy you might also look at your family tree. This can be helpful because this process can enable you to see how you came to hold the values you do.
In family therapy you have the opportunity to see how your role in your family impacts on other family members.
A question I am often asked is, “Do I need to come to family counselling with the rest of my family?” The answer is “No, you can come with all, some or none of your family members. As long as you come with an open mind, some willingness to participate and an inquiring mind that reflects sensibly on what you hear and feel as you interact with your counsellor then family counselling should be no problem for you.
