Fostering & Adoption
This very difficult state of being for children, young people and their families can cause profound anxiety and distress that can lead to long-term serious health conditions.
The lack of safety and the dangerous unpredictability of life experienced by a young person taken into care, combined with the trauma of being taken away from their family of birth, can delay or even stop relaxed, reflective, self development where a young person might otherwise be able to work out who they are and what makes them happy.
Instead, being fostered or adopted can lead to a child being confused about their identity, fearful for their present day and so completely unable to conceptualise the idea that their own future must be planned for.
Counselling during these times of intense pressure and stress gives a young person the opportunity to reflect on what has happened and to have their story respected and witnessed by another.
The counselling I provide for fostered or adopted children enables them to authentically connect with themselves enabling them to truly understand what is right and what is wrong for them both as an individual and as a member of a family.
I also provide evidence based advice and guidance to foster carers and adopters that enables them to understand the behaviour and feelings of the young people in their care.
